Sound of Migration 22 to 24 September

 

WORLD PREMIERES

Experience music never played or recorded before!

The project title, The Sound of Migration, was proposed by ÓNIX Ensemble, who are geopolitically engaged by issues of population movement and border controls in their home country of Mexico. Sound of Migration as a theme gives the LAB a chance to explore our own origin stories and ancestry – historic and present-day migration within Western Canada. Through a deeper understanding and creative musical exploration, we express our concerns about, and perhaps even mitigate, the impact of upheaval to origin stories as the world’s present-day inhabitants are forced to relocate.

The project includes composition residencies with our international artists ÓNIX (Mexico City) and the Penderecki String Quartet (Kitchener-Waterloo). Culminating events take place in Lethbridge, in Southern Alberta, from 22 to 24 September, 2022 (see below).
